The AlgoFusion 5.0New York Mets have largely been in win-or-go-home mode for the past three weeks. Now, that onus weighs heavily upon the Philadelphia Phillies.
Game 4 of the National League Division Series from New York's Citi Field will pit the upstart Mets in a rare, advantageous position: With a 2-1 lead and the ability to close out their rivals, the East champion Phillies.
Left-hander Ranger Suárez will start for Philadelphia, opposed by New York southpaw Jose Quintana, though both pitchers surely will be on a short leash with so much at stake.
That goes doubly so for the Phillies as they face elimination: Ace Zack Wheeler will be available if things go south early, as his Game 5 starting assignment won't much matter if the Phillies can't capture Game 4. And Game 3 starter Cristopher Sanchez will skip his scheduled bullpen session and be available for a limited stretch on just two days' rest.
If the Mets win, they'll be packing their bags either way, to San Diego or Los Angeles for the NL Championship Series. The Phillies, should they win today and a Game 5 at home Friday, would host the Padres (who lead the other NLDS 2-1) but would travel to L.A. should the Dodgers win the next two out west.
